SALES DESIGN ENGINEER

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Jungheinrich Ireland for you to join our logistics team as Sales Design Engineer.  

THE ROLE

Operating out of Munster and the Mid West region, we are seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Sales Design Engineer to support our commercial team in delivering tailored warehouse and logistics solutions to clients. This role bridges the gap between sales and operations, ensuring that customer requirements are translated into practical, cost-effective, and scalable solutions to suit the customer needs.

Reporting to the Systems Manager, specific responsibilities include:

Sales & Solution Design

  • Identify customer needs and develop customised warehouse and logistics solutions including identifying new customers within the market segment.
  • Design technical proposals including warehouse layouts, automation concepts, and process improvements in conjunction with the customer requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to evaluate client requirements and operational challenges.
  • Prepare and present technical proposals, including cost estimates and ROI analysis.
  • Drive strategic initiatives to increase profitability, margins, and long-term customer value.

Customer Engagement

  • Act as the technical expert during client meetings, presentations, and negotiations.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, customer-friendly language.
  • Build strong relationships with clients to understand their long-term logistics strategy.

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and implementation teams to ensure solutions are feasible and deliverable.
  • Support the transition from sales to project execution, ensuring alignment with customer expectations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during implementation with the project team & customer.

Market & Product Knowledge

  • Stay current on industry trends, including warehouse automation and logistics technologies.
  • Provide feedback to internal teams on customer needs and emerging market opportunities.

Reporting

  • Track and report on sales performance metrics, providing insight and recommendations.
  • Manage associated budgets and ensure to stay within sales process guidelines.
  • Provide accurate and timely sales forecasts to senior leadership.
  • Stay aligned with market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to inform strategy.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on lead generation, campaigns, and brand positioning.

 

THE PERSON

This position is ideally suited for a qualified design engineer who is interested in diversifying into a sales role to enhance their career with excellent earning and growth opportunities. 

The ideal candidate will understand warehouse operations, supply chain processes, and technical solution design, combined with excellent communication and customer relationship skills.

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in sales engineering, logistics, or warehouse operations together with:

  • Strong knowledge of logistics processes, warehouse design and material handling systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Fully computer literate with Microsoft packages, Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
  • Full EU driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to meet clients and attend sales events across Europe as required.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD.
  • Flexibility to work across regions where required.
  • Demonstrate an innovative approach to problem solving.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience within sales in intralogistics company.
  • Experience with WMS, automation systems, or supply chain technology.
  • Previous experience of working with CRM and/or SAP
